We almost have a kitchen again! The wall was reconstructed and spackled up today, and the kitchen counter/sink was reinstalled. This means it is now safe for Lily to roam the apartment, thank goodness. Poor kitty. (I worked from home today so she wouldn't have to be shut up again.) The hanging cabinet is not yet hung, and the top section of the wall needs to be painted (and the adjacent wall got pretty dinged up and needs some spackle and paint), but at least we have access to the sink and the fridge again.
Also:
That is the cast of I Kissed a Vampire posing for the No H8 campaign. Because I needed to love those boys even more, I guess.
And here is a meme from
harmonyangel and
poisonivory. Fandom cliches, hooray! What do you think of...
Genderswap - I can't remember having run into this in any of my fandoms. It doesn't hold any inherent appeal to me.
Bodyswap - I haven't run across any of this in my fandoms either, but OH MAN, someday I want to write bodyswap in my HSM superhero 'verse. SO BADLY.
Drunk!fic - Um. Yes. I may have written "alcohol lowers their inhibitions" once or twice or… ahem. (But always with the caveat that they're both into it, or else just talk and wait until sobering up to screw around, because I'm not into the drunkenly-taking-advantage thing.)
Huddling together for warmth - YES PLEASE. Thanks, Newsies fandom!
Undercover in a gay bar - This hasn't shown up in any of my fandoms, and I had to ask Rachel to make sure it was what I thought it was. And now I want it. BADLY. Like, OfficerDetective Danforth is undercover investigating Ryan, who's suspected of…something, not important, and obviously shenanigans happen. (Rachel's addition: Troy is also undercover as a beefcake male stripper.)
Pretending to be married - Why are my fandoms only about teenagers? I WOULD READ THIS.
Secretly a virgin - Aww. I do get this one. I've even written secretvirgin!Sharpay, now that I think about it.
Amnesia - Again, hasn't happened in my fandoms, but I would totes read it!
Cross-dressing - Falling under the generally heading of "wacky hijinks," sure! But in and of itself, it doesn't do much for me.
Forced to share a bed - Absolutely yes. Again: thanks, Newsies fandom!
Aliens made them do it - This hasn't come up in my fandoms, but again, I'd totes read it. Who wants to write this for me with Will/Warren/Layla? :D?
Wingfic - Ummmm… no?
Mpreg - REALLY no. I love guys with babies (which is weird, because IRL I have zero interest in babies) but not if one of them is actually knocked up. Then again, pregnancy overall squicks me. (My neuroses, let me show you them.)
Mistakenly assumed to be gay - AHAHAHA, YES. This is actually surprisingly common in HSM fandom, with Chad (verrrry occasionally Ryan) not realizing that they've totally been dating since the baseball game until someone points it out that fall. Everyone is like, shrug, except for Chad who is shocked, SHOCKED! that people think he's gay, until he realizes he is and also he's very glad he's dating Ryan, and since they're dating anyway, perhaps it is time for some smooching.
Let's play truth or dare - …yeah. NGL, the Sky High epic I fiddled with a few weeks ago before it lost my interest (short attention span is short) absolutely involved this, and then I reworked it a few days later to be I Never instead. Drinking game clichés are part of drunk!fic, though, which I already copped to liking.
Mary Sue fic - I love Mary Sues. LOVE them. In order for me to read them, yes, the fic has to have some semblance of decent writing, no matter how ludicrous the story is… but that's the thing, I don't CARE how ludicrous the story is. I want a plucky girl with violet eyes who can beat up everyone yelling at and then smooching the boy of her dreams, while possessing the strongest superpowers and being related to someone in canon and whatnot. I write Mary Sues in my head all the damn time; it's only because I don't have the time that they don't make it to paper. Except the ones who do. (*cough*HISMSV*cough*)
Aphrodisiacs - Hasn't shown up in my fandoms, but I would read it if it did. This is why Sky High needs a fandom. Pout.
Curtain fic - OMG YES. ALL I WANT IS DOMESTICITY. I FOR SERIOUS WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THE FIGHT CHAD AND RYAN HAVE OVER WINDOW TREATMENTS IN THEIR APARTMENT. REALLY.
Hurt/Comfort - Yes please. This is what happens when you grow up on book recommendations from
harriet_vane.
Apocalypse fic - I read it when I can find it! But I don't actively seek it. But I do have to say, the Sky High apocalypse AU I've got in my brain is really awesome.
Someone has a baby - Yes to possessing a baby! No to the physical process of pregnancy!
Baby!fic - As in "the main characters as babies/young children"? That doesn't exist in any of my fandoms, that I recall, but I would probably read it.
Telepathic soulbonding - Thanks to spending my formative years mainlining Mercedes Lackey, I have a very high tolerance for this. But I don't seek it out, and actually as an adult find it kind of… meh. Because I'd much rather read about the process of people falling in love and realizing they are meant to be than have people instantly be perfect and together forever.
Werewolves mate for life - This is relevant to neither my fandoms nor my interests.
ZOMG ETA:
Aww, Corbin is a fanboy. Also, super duper hot.
ME: To his credit, the guy has a way with words. To his debit, he is clearly a fucking idiot.
Poll #1507538 2010
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: All, participants: 9
What are you going to do in 2010?
Shakespeare on Film: B+
Senior Project: TBA (grade assigned at end of second semester)
#1: Six months ago, when
tweendom_anon ran its second round, I left a prompt. No one filled it, so I forgot about it, until surprise! I'd tracked the thread and someone replied to it over the weekend. Sadly, it's not finished yet, but it's pretty awesome regardless. So please enjoy Swing It!, in which Chad finds Ryan's porn stash. :D
#2: Meme! From
second_batgirl: Ask me one as many fandom-related questions as you want in the comments. This can be fandom specific, general, or about fandom/lj stuff/fic writing/etc. in general. Favorite character, favorite moment, unpopular opinion, something about a fic of mine... whatever. Wackiness encouraged.
[addendum -- defining fandom broadly as reading/writing/watching/listening, canon or fic, anything on those lines you want to ask me about!]
#3: I am thinking about starting a community for people to post/link to lengthy fics written in smallish fandoms. ( Some seriously TL;DR thoughts; I am up for suggestions. )
Okay. So those are the long, rambling thoughts. In short, what I'm considering is creating a comm, which will be for:
1) Fics longer than 25,000 words (no WIPs), in
2) fandoms with little presence on LJ (including fandoms that have little presence anywhere at all)
Of course, this assumes I'm motivated enough to do it. IDK, I'm pretty lazy. But would something like that appeal to people, do you think?
In absolutely un-related, non-fannish news, this is the current situation in my apartment. Rachel, Lily, and I are extremely displeased.
My stomache did not leave me be through the night. I rolled over many times. Towards and away from Nick. Sometimes wanting to be held and other times wanting to be as far from this body as possible. When I finally conceded that I was awake I rolled over to the spooning of the body next to me. Nick is good bed buddy. I enjoy his company and companionship, and most of the time I would say that he is understanding of our open status. I told him about my dreams. I had dreamt of holding Eli's hand on a bus. There were other details, but the one that stuck the most with me was that one. We fooled around, but I felt that certain things were not what i wanted right then. I spoke up and said something. ( Ok not stood up in the physical action but in the emotional sense) There was some gentle teasing of the way that he enjoys himself. ( Rather I should say the final moment of expressing of enjoyment of his self) Thinking it was an hour earlier than it in fact was I agreed to breakfast in Arcata. When I got out of bed and pulled on my clothes i discovered that it was indeed not 9 but 10 oclock. I texted Sean to push back the time of our tai chi practice.
Ushering in 2010, I wrote:

TOTAL: 7,350
I still owe Annie V her ficlet.
I made Twitter accounts for the LIGO control rooms:

ME: You're not the target audience. The target audience is twelve-year-olds and pervs.
First, read this.
This led to discussion of lists couples make together, of who makes an acceptable third. Leading to this, yelled across my living room by me and Jess:
Ryan: Zeke.
Chad: *laughing* Yeah, okay, sure. You just call him and ask.
Ryan: Awesome. *grabs phone* Hey, Zeke? Chad and I were just...
Chad: *stares in horror, steals phone and stomps on it*
Ryan: Jeeze, what?
Chad: DUDE, that is is my BRO. It would be like asking your SISTER.
Ryan: *considers* Well, okay, if you're in the middle.
Chad: EW. Wait. Hot twins. Wait. EW. Wait. OKAY, IF I'M IN THE MIDDLE.
Personal: Exercise more. Get out more. Reconnect with old friends, stay connected with current ones.
Literary: Finally read that copy of Against the Day that I bought when it was released in August of 2006. Read more plays--I read only four this past year, discounting the three Shakespeares I read for class. Connected to that: read some more Shakespeare that I've never read before.
Theatrical: See more stuff that's off the beaten track, or at least that's more off-center. Go to at least one new theatre space this year. Write more.
Some of our scripts at work started writing to this directory last night:/cvs/cds/llo/burt/autoburt/snapshots/20010
Last night was New Years, which meant, of course, kareoke. It was five hours of fantastic singing goodness, followed by collapsing in exhaustion. Margot is off with Jess at the moment and Jen is chilling on the couch with me, and in a few hours we will all be together to watch Newsies. As we do. :D :D :D :D :D
SPEAKING OF (of course): Secret slash is up! Enjoy!

Margot is visiting! Someday I will make a more detailed post about her visit and the holidays and such (okay, probably I won't because I never do, but I theoretically could). Today we went to see Sherlock Holmes. Again.
Two-word review:
"Mmm.... suspenders."
I think that's all I've got at the moment.

I have a gripe with the phrase "order of magnitude": the name makes it sound like a natural quantity, independent of your number system, but really it's defined relative to our base-10 system of counting. Base 10 is about as anthropocentric as you can get.
